| Description | The constitution includes articles on the following subjects: declaration of rights; state boundaries and counties; distribution of powers of government; legislative department; executive department; judicial department; state and county officers; elections by the people; and amendment and revision of the constitution. The last page is signed by Benjamin Fitzpatrick, president of the convention, and William H. Ogbourne, secretary of the convention.The purpose of the constitution of 1865 was to allow for Alabama's readmission into the Union after the Civil War. The document is written on 34 sheets of paper, bound together at the top of each page with string; it is 15 inches long and 9.25 inches wide.
