Description | Diary entries are chronological but irregular (sometimes months apart, sometimes years). Topics discussed include family matters and health; religion; homes in northwest Georgia (near a settlement of Cherokee Indians) and Gaylesville in Cherokee County, Alabama; foreigners working on the railroad along the Tennessee River; the slavery issue as it was addressed by the Northern Methodist General Conference; the Civil War; and postwar hardships. A transcript of excerpts is included, as well as a biographical sketch and index. |
