Dunlap entered the war as a private in Company K, 3rd Alabama Infantry, C.S.A. He was promoted to a sergeant major in August 1863, and he became first lieutenant and adjutant of the regiment shortly after that.
Murphree was a private in Company E of the 6th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A., and he later transferred to Company H of the 57th Alabama regiment as a second lieutenant.

Initially Kelly was a first lieutenant and was then promoted to captain. His beard partially obscures the bars on his collar making it difficult to determine his rank in this photo.
Francis was captain of Co.B, 30th Alabama Infantry from 1862 until promoted to major in August 1863. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel a few weeks before he was killed at Rocky Face Ridge, Georgia.
Burr enlisted as a private in Co. H, 30th Alabama Infantry in 1862 and was captain of Co. H by early 1863. He was later promoted to major and then lieutenant colonel.
