Hall represented Georgia in the United States House of Representatives from 1811 to 1817. He moved to Alabama and established a plantation, "Ellerslie," in present-day Elmore County.
Gunter served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1847 to 1850. After the Civil War, he moved to Brazil, bought slaves, and had a plantation. This portrait hangs at the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
