Alabama Textual Materials Collection

This collection contains a selection of textual materials such as letters, diaries, minutes, fliers, clippings, and excerpts from books. State publications, the Alabama Historical Quarterly, the Alabama Official and Statistical Register, and the History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography by Thomas M. Owen are in separate collections below.

Alabama Audio-Visual Collection
This collection currently consists of a few oral history interviews conducted by the Alabama Dept. of Public Health about the 1918 influenza epidemic

Alabama state agencies , political blogs, and historical web sites collection, 1996-ongoing

Since 2005 the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History (ADAH) has worked to preserve Alabama state agency web sites via The Internet Archive. The web sites on Archive-It are arranged in the following collections, some of which are further subdivided: Alabama Constitutional Officers collection, Alabama Legislature and Appellate Courts collection, Alabama Regional, Multi-State or Multi-County Agencies or Commissions collection, Alabama Political BLOGs collection, Alabama State Agencies collection, and Alabama State Agency Facebook pages, Alabama State Agency Twitter Feeds, and Alabama State Agency YouTube videos collection. Material typically becomes available on The Internet Archive six months or so after being collected.

Frank W. Boykin Collection

Congressman Frank W. Boykin represented Alabama's First Congressional District from 1935 to 1963. The collection contains over a thousand items, including personal and official correspondence, political memorabilia, and photographs.

Governors George C. and Lurleen B. Wallace Collection

The Governors George C. and Lurleen B. Wallace Collection contains official papers of the Wallace administrations and private records of the Wallace family, as well as photographs and audio visual materials featuring the Wallaces.

The Alabama Historical Quarterly

Collection contains the 119 issues of the Alabama Historical Quarterly published by the Alabama Department of Archives and History in 1930 and between 1940 and 1982.

Alabama Official and Statistical Register

Collection contains the twenty-one editions of the Alabama Official and Statistical Register published by the Alabama Department of Archives and History between 1903 and 1979.

History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography

Collection contains the four-volume set compiled by the founder and first Director of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, Thomas McAdory Owen. The series was published after his death by his wife, Marie Bankhead Owen.

WPA Alabama Writers’ Project

Collection contains several hundred ex-slave narratives, life histories, short stories, and folklore of Alabama life composed as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Federal Writers’ Project during the Great Depression.
